Great Qiu Jin

Qiu Jin is an immortalized woman in the Republic of China’s popular consciousness because she was a pioneer to fight for women’s rights in China. Also, she was a very famous poet in China’s literature. But, today I’d like to talk about how she effected the fates of million women in China.
First at all, I’d like to introduce her background.Qiu Jin was born in Fujian province of China in 1875. She grew up in her ancestral home . At that time, there were not schools for girls, so she only stayed at home to learn traditional culture of China by herself. At same time, girls had not any freedom to marry . When she grew up, she had to marry a man who was chosen by her parents. She had an unhappy marriage and had 2 kids. But she was a brave woman. She didn’t obey the fate and dared to divorce at her 27years old. But, she had no right to take care her children.
Then, I’d like to introduce China's social situation. We all know that China has a long history. In past 5000 years, men could marry many wives in China, but women only could marry once in their life. One century ago, many countries invaded China and brought some new ideas to Chinese. These ideas were including that “one husband only has one wife”and “women have equal rights like men”.
Qiu Jin liked these ideas. She decided to study these new thoughts in Japan. In1904, she became a member of “Tongmenghui” in Japan. Next year, she became a real revolutionary and planed to overthrow the last dynasty of China, the Qing Dynasty. Then, she bravely returned to China with other 2000 students in 1906.
When she went back to China, she began to against the Qing Dynasty at once. She wrote a manifesto to lament the problems that was caused by bound feet and oppressive marriages. She spoke out all women’s rights : such as the freedom to marry, the freedom of education and abolishment of foot binding. Actually, foot binding almost let million women disabilities. Then, she built “China Women’s News”. This newspaper brought many new information and ideas to Chinese. Next, she set up a school for women , named it “DaTong” school. She was a principle.
The Qing Dynasty was very afraid of her remarks and speeches. So,she was arrested by the authority in 1907. At the same year on July 15, she was beheaded in her home village. When she died, she was only at her 31 years old. After she died, she was immediately acknowledged by revolutionaries as a heroine and martyr. She deeply effected the popular consciousness and she became a symbol of women’s independence in China.
To summarize that what I said, I really appreciate and respect her because she was so brave that million women of China have got huge benefits for her political activities. I am so moved and very thankful for her great feat. She is a great heroine in my heart. Today , one of her poems is still hung on my wall in Canada.
今天发表篇文章出来纪念一下——这应该是俺在加拿大第一篇费了老劲写出来的英文作文啊。太不容易了。
